BIOGRAPHY
Yiorgos Michael is a visual artist and poet. He was born and raised in Cyprus and has spent much of his adult life in the United States. Now, he lives and works between the two countries. Drawing on his experience of migration and continual movement, his practice explores displacement, presence, identity, aging, and belonging. He works across photography, text, and installation to construct image sequences and spatial environments in which bodies, gestures, and transient spaces become psychologically charged. The result is an exploration of the fragile architecture of presence: the uncertain space between appearing and disappearing, intimacy and distance, memory and metaphor.
Yiorgos also writes poetry in Greek and English. He treats text as a parallel material within his visual practice using it to deepen the psychological landscape of his visual work.
His work was selected as a Juror’s Pick in the 2026 LensCulture Art Photography Awards by Rebecca Morse, Curator at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), and received 3rd Place in Fine Art at the 2025 Black & White Spider Awards.
